Mama, Mama, put me to bed
I won't make it home, I'm already half-dead.
I met an Invalid, and fell for his art
He showed me his smile, and went straight for my heart.

A group of Invalids meeting in the Wilds as part of the resistance.

Invalids are people over the age of 18 who choose not to be cured as society demands. The earliest Invalids survived the Great Sanitation while later ones escaped from verified communities before they were cured. Most live in the Wilds as homesteaders or else are undercover resisters living in cities with faked scars to masquerade as cureds. Most Invalids find the term offensive.

Until the Incidents, the American government refused to acknowledge the existence of Invalids even though most people within the verified communities knew otherwise. As such, wild rumors circulate within verified communities that Invalids are "monsters" or "freaks", crazed with love.

Trivia Edit

  • The term "Invalid" has a double meaning in that it can describe someone who is invalidated and therefore outside of the valid communities or it can describe someone who is very ill as those without the Cure are considered to be ravaged with the disease of love.
